Versio Francesco

Francesco Versio is one of the up-and-coming producers of the Langhe, a talented young winemaker and protagonist of territorial and elegant wines. The winery is located in Neive, a commune in the Barbaresco territory, where in 2012 Francesco officially started his adventure, elevating the family tradition. In fact, for years the Versio family dedicated themselves to selling grapes from Francesco's grandfather's old vineyards in the San Cristoforo and Currà crus, only to stop when the young man started making wine on his own. Fundamental steps in the winemaker's prestigious journey were a degree in oenology obtained in 2009 and years of experience as cellarman at the renowned Bruno Giacosa winery, where Francesco grew under the supervision of renowned oenologist Dante Scaglione.

The hectares cultivated by winemaker Francesco Versio are just over 3, reserved for some of the traditional Langhe varieties, such as Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. The vineyards are mainly located in prestigious Additional Geographical Mentions in the Barbaresco area, particularly in the commune of Neive, such as Albesani, Currà, San Cristoforo and Starderi, all with excellent south-westerly exposure. In general, the plots lie on soils consisting of clay, sand and limestone, the content of which varies according to the sub-zone of reference. In the cellar, Francesco adopts a traditional, minimalist style, based on spontaneous fermentation and tendentially prolonged maceration. For the Barbaresco, ageing takes place strictly in large Slavonian oak casks, while steel vats and cement vats are also used to mature the other wines.

Thus are born the wines of Francesco Versio, authentic expressions of Langa produced without compromise, capable of emphasising theelegance and complexity of the terroir. The flagship of the production is, needless to say, the Barbaresco, an expression of the four crus cultivated by the winemaker, capable of standing out for its complex and refined aromas and noble tannin. A juicy Dogliani, an intense Barbera d'Alba and a surprisingly layered Langhe Nebbiolo complete the range.
