The “Santa Maddalena” Red from the San Michele Appiano winery is the intimate and deep extraction of the grape variety most closely linked to the winemaking tradition of Alto Adige. “Santa Maddalena” is indeed the name of the locality that, due to its history and pedoclimatic profile, is most suited for the cultivation of the Schiava variety. It yields a red light, fragrant, easy-drinking, ideal for accompanying everyday meals. It is a reflection of the Alto Adige wine culture, rooted in the genuineness of local tables. Its fruity character makes it engaging and suitable for a multitude of contexts. This “queen of Schiava” - a title that this red has earned over the years - is rarely out of place or unwelcome. Its cheerful and simple character constitutes its merit and immense popular value.

The “Santa Maddalena” Red from San Michele Appiano is composed of a blend made up of 90% Schiava and the remaining 10% Lagrein, thus remaining within the boundaries of pureand territorial tradition under the Alto Adige brand. The grapes come from vineyards located at an altitude of 300 – 350 meters above sea level near the locality of Santa Maddalena, adjacent to Bolzano. Here the soils are loose and rich in moraine deposits. From mid-September to early October, manual harvesting takes place. The alcoholic fermentation occurs in steel tanks and is followed by malolactic fermentation. The aging phase is conducted partly in wooden barrels and partly in steel tanks.

San Michele Appiano “Santa Maddalena” Red presents a delicate ruby red color but with a beautiful brightness. The aroma reflects the gentleness of the color and unfolds into notes of red fruits, small berries, and cherries. The taste is characterized by freshness and lightness. It is soft and fruity, marked by a great pleasantness of drink. Any occasion is good for uncorking a bottle.
