Le Boncie
The Podere Le Boncie is located near Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena, in one of the most beautiful and vocated areas of Chianti Classico. The hilly area offers wonderful sunny exposures, characterized by a mild and breezy climate. The soils are medium-textured, with a calcareous clay matrix, featuring alberese and galestro. For centuries, they have been the ideal habitat for indigenous red grape varieties, primarily Sangiovese, accompanied by minor varieties such as Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Mammolo, Foglia Tonda, and Prugnolo. The estate was established in the 1980s when Giovanna Morganti inherited the family farm and decided to dedicate herself full-time to viticulture.
The property covers an area of 4 hectares, with vineyards trained as bush vines with high density of plants per hectare and low yields, in order to obtain high-quality grapes. This is in contrast to the image of Chianti, unfortunately spread for decades by an intensive viticulture focused mainly on quantity, which has contributed to discrediting the image of the territory. The choice of bush training entails an inevitable manual labor in the vineyard and the impossibility of any mechanization. Giovanna's intent is, in fact, to recover a daily and direct relationship with the land, with an authentic vigneron spirit. The agronomic management follows the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, in full respect of a surrounding environment that is still wild and unspoiled.
Thanks to this attention, the grapes arrive at the winery perfectly healthy and rich in aromas. The winemaking practices are simple and based on minimal intervention, so that the grapes transform into wine while preserving the integrity of the varietal aromas. Fermentations occur spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts and in open vats, without any temperature control. A return to a simple and light enology, which allows for the production of wines with an intense and elegant profile, which have now established themselves among the best expressions from the area. The labels of Podere Le Boncie are increasingly sought after by the most attentive enthusiasts.to environmental sustainability and to wines that can express the terroir in a frank and genuine way.
