Osvaldo Soddu

Osvaldo Soddu is an authentic winegrower from Mamoiada committed to enhancing the prized local Cannonau. This wine-producing area, located in the heart of Sardinia, in a mountainous region within the province of Nuoro, has indeed come to prominence for the high quality of its red wines. Descending from a family of shepherds who have always dedicated themselves to viticulture, cultivating old vineyards planted in the traditional alberello style, Osvaldo inherited in 2004 a small 80-year-old vineyard that had been abandoned, convincing himself that his path lay in the world of wine. Over the years, the winemaker has dedicated himself to the recovery and renewal of the plot, focusing his activity on the cultivation of Cannonau. The winery, located right in front of the vineyards, is situated just outside the municipality of Mamoiada, in a subzone named Bruncu Boeli, where with the 2019 harvest Osvaldo finally bottled the first labels intended for commercialization.

varietal of the Mamoiada territory, cultivated in the Ghirada Bruncu Boeli. The vineyard, trained in the alberello style, grows at a height of 630 meters above sea level on granitic soils. The vines are cared for using artisanal methods, respecting the principles of organic farming and utilizing a hoe for manual soil work. In the winery, the fermentations rely solely on the intervention of indigenous yeasts, accompanied by not excessively prolonged macerations on the skins. For aging, different types of oak barrels are used, and throughout the entire process, the doses of added sulfites are kept very low, while the use of clarification and filtration operations is excluded.

The Cannonau from winemaker Osvaldo Soddu is appreciated for intensity, richness, and roundness, typical traits of Mamoiada wines. Furthermore, the freshness and well-integrated tannins allow for a certain balance, giving rise to expressions of great harmony.
