The Barbera del Monferrato Superiore by Auriel is the deepest and most substantial red from the small Piedmont winery, capable of a surprising evolution even over time. Auriel is one of our favorite wineries, as it is able to bottle authentic territorial expressions that never lose detail and definition: what more can one aspire to? No chemical or synthetic aids are used to support the 3 hectares of vineyards in Ponzano Monferrato, entirely dedicated to Barbera and Grignolino, true masters of the local ampelography. Few gestures are made in the winery, which finalize the harvest of healthy and vital grapes, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics to preserve the vitality of soil and fruit. In short, an indispensable reference point for fully understanding the area and territory.
The Barbera del Monferrato Superiore is obtained from pure grapes of the same name cultivated near Ponzano Monferrato. If in the vineyard, as already mentioned, the dictates of biodynamics are followed by eliminating any chemical substanceor synthetic, and only using a bit of copper, sulfur, and natural preparations, in the winery spontaneous alcoholic fermentations continue and, in the case of this red, with aging in 500-liter tonneaux for one year. Furthermore, the wine does not undergo clarification or filtration before bottling.
The Auriel Barbera Superiore fills the glass with its dark and intense purple red robe. Clear and intense olfactory impact, ranging from plum to cocoa, from blackberries to cinnamon, and unfolds in a constant dialectic between fruit and spice. The sip is full, turgid, and powerful, and especially denotes a remarkable harmony between acidity, tannin, and pulp. Powerful.
