The Nero d'Avola “Passo delle Mule” from the Duca di Salaparuta winery is an intense and fruity Sicilian red, produced with the most widespread red grape on the island, a true symbol of Sicilian tradition. It is a simple version that focuses primarily on immediate drinkability, characterized by a fidelity to the best varietal characteristics of the grape. The brief aging allows for softening the wine's profile, making it harmonious and round, without losing the typical fruity fragrance of the varietal.
The “Passo delle Mule” is the youngest and easiest to taste Nero d'Avola label from the Duca di Salaparuta winery, the one that best illustrates its typicity and territorial character. The grapes come from the vineyards of the estate, located near Risi, in the central area of the island. The Nero d'Avola vines are planted in very suitable soils, located at about 300 meters above sea level and composed of a predominantly calcareous and siliceous. The grapes undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with a skin maceration period of about 8 days. Before bottling, the wine matures for about 10 months, partly in oak barrels and partly in cement tanks.
The “Passo delle Mule” Nero d'Avola is a bottle to be enjoyed informally in company when one craves a good medium-structured red, not too complex or evolved. In the glass, it has a beautiful dark ruby red color, lively and bright. The aromatic profile is dominated by intense and fragrant aromas of red fruit, cherry, sour cherry, plums, hints of soft oriental spices, and delicate notes of vanilla. Pleasantly fruity, it has a juicy and satisfying sip, expressing an enveloping harmony, supported by a good body and a fine tannic texture. The finish is very balanced, with a fresh closure that tones with slight spicy sensations. It is an ideal label to bring to the table with the flavorful first courses of Sicilian cuisine based on meat ragù.
