Gabriele Cordero
Gabriele Cordero represents a small family-run production reality founded in 2016 by Gabriele and Serena Cordero, young siblings who decided to follow in the footsteps of their father Gianfranco Cordero, an important Piedmontese wine consultant, giving life to pure and typical expressions. We are in the municipality of Priocca, in the Roero area, a territory located just north of the Langhe, on the left bank of the Tanaro river. Serena is a skilled oenologist who oversees the winemaking in the name of craftsmanship while her brother Gabriele lovingly dedicates himself to managing the vineyards. In addition to managing the oenological aspect of the family winery, Serena Cordero is a consultant for numerous wineries located in the municipality of Alba, but also in Tuscany, Calabria, and even Moldova.
The estate of Serena and Gabriele Cordero has 8 hectares of vineyards located between the municipalities of Priocca and Vezza d'Alba, mainly reserved for traditional grape varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Arneis, accompanied by a small percentage of Riesling Renano and Timorasso. The vineyards, cultivated according to a sustainable viticulture, are found in a context of prosperous biodiversity thanks to the presence of bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects. The soils are located at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level and are composed partly of sand and partly of clay and blue marl. In the winery, fermentations are started using pied de cuve and take place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent aging, the Cordero family uses cement tanks, steel vats, French oak barriques, or large barrels.
Among the most representative expressions of the Gabriele Cordero winery stands out the Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Hica', an interpretation of this famous black grape variety that is appreciated for its important structure and expressive breadth. In this bottle, the entire personality of Serena emerges, who also illustrated and chose the name of the label. Also worth mentioning are the Roero Arneis 'Innav' and the Roero Rosso.
