Cascina Chicco

Through the union of modernity and tradition, passion and knowledge, the Piedmontese estate Cascina Chicco interprets with stylistic precision and territoriality the excellence denominations of Roero and Langhe. At the helm of this important production reality based in Canale, in the heart of Roero, are brothers Marco and Enrico Faccenda, always driven by the desire to work the most vocated vineyards of Lower Piemonte. Marco and Enrico represent the third winemaking generation of the family, a tradition started in 1950 by their grandfather Ernesto, nicknamed Chicu, from which Cascina Chicco takes its name. Ernesto recognized the potential of the Roero territory at a time when the area did not enjoy the prestige it has today, deciding to purchase the first hectare of land and starting the production of bulk wine. In the following decades, the estate expanded its vineyard area and with Federico Faccenda, Ernesto's son, began the marketing of bottled wine. In the 1980s, after completing their studies at the Enological School of Alba, Marco and Enrico made their entrance into the winery, investing in important modernization works of the structures and continuing to purchase vocated plots on both banks of the Tanaro river.

The over 50 hectares of vineyards owned by Cascina Chicco are exclusively reserved for the traditional varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis, and Favorita, cultivated in the municipalities of Canale, Vezza d’Alba, Castellinaldo, Castagnito, and Monforte d’Alba, between Langhe and Roero. Although the soils on which the plants grow are differentiated from area to area, there is a general presence of clay and limestone in the lands. For the aging of the most prestigious and complex wines, large Slavonian oak barrels, barriques, or oak tonneaux are used. In contrast, the fresher and younger white and red wines mature in steel. The estate was also among the pioneers in the production of Classic Method sparkling wines from Nebbiolo grapes, a tradition started back in 2001.

The Cascina Chicco winery is the protagonist of a rather broad and diversified production in terms of style and type, focused on enhancing the expression of the Roero and Langhe territories, with a particular focus on Nebbiolo, offered in various interpretations. Among the renowned Additional Geographical Mentions that the estate can boast are 'Castelletto' and 'Ginestra' in the Barolo area and 'Valmaggiore' and 'Mompissano' regarding Roero, authentic wine excellences.
